Each year, Florida hosts a convention catering to those who love comic books, sci-fi, anime and pop culture. It is called Florida Supercon and attracts devotees from far and wide. Although comics are often associated with kids, serious enthusiasts can have collections worth substantial amounts. Rare and complete collections in perfect condition can attract a premium sale price. Serious collectors know the value of their pieces and should take steps to protect their collections from theft or damage.

Should the value of your comic book collection fall outside of typical home insurance limits, you may need to consider taking out an additional policy. Your Florida insurance agent can answer any queries and help you to arrange appropriate coverage if necessary.

Comic collections can often start out as just a few treasured pieces and as you add to them, build into a sizable investment. The market for collections may be limited but it is recognized. Collectors usually make sure their comics are kept in pristine condition, as this can significantly increase their value. Some comics can sell at auction for upwards of $100,000. Comics where a character is first introduced, first issues and issues written or drawn by a particular artist can all be valuable investments.

Do you have a valuable comic collection? Be sure to have it valued and speak to your Florida insurance agent about including it in your home coverage or obtaining a separate policy. Having it stolen or destroyed would be bad enough, but finding it’s not covered would be worse.
